Percy Arthur Dennis was born in Soham (Newmarket Q4-1896 3B:530), the son of William Henry and Laura Mary DENNIS (née MASSEY).
1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Pratt Street, Soham with his father William H.DENNIS [43] a draper, born Wicken; his mother Laura M. [33] born Dalston, Middlesex; sisters Hilda [13], Laura M. [12], Gladys R. [10] and Dorothy P. [6] and brother Maurice W. [8]. All Percy's siblings were born in Fordham. He joined Soham Grammar School at the age of 12 years 11 months on 13th September 1910 from the Council School, Soham, leaving Easter 1912. He enlisted in Luton. The history of the Regiment has the 1st Battalion out of the line in camp north of Roclincourt for the majority of May., stating that," for day and night working parties had to be furnished and the amount of work demanded of them was very strenuous." Only two men were killed that day.
